This article contains details of some remedies that are a natural cure for hemorrhoids and will help you combat this condition in a fast, effective and safe way. As explained in my article on ‘Hemorrhoids – Who Gets Them’, they are a common problem that affects most men and women sometime in their lives. Often hemorrhoids will go away on their own, but in some cases if you choose to ignore them, hemorrhoids can bring severe discomfort and pain and eventually require surgery (arrgh!).
A Natural Cure for Hemorrhoids
1.) Onion and Garlic – Both garlic and onions have strong antibacterial properties that help in destroying the bacteria, and reduce inflammation. Simply peel the outer cover of a clove of garlic or onion, and insert it into the rectum (don’t make the clove too big!). Leave the clove in overnight. The next day it will come out on its own accord when you next go to the toilet.
This natural treatment provides quick relief from the pain and swelling associated with hemorrhoids, and also helps in strengthening the veins in the rectal canal.
A word of caution: do NOT use this method if you are suffering from bleeding hemorrhoids.
2.) Iodine Crystals – Another common but potent cure for hemorrhoids involves dipping the affected area into warm water containing Iodine crystals for 15 to 20 minutes. Iodine is a powerful antiseptic that provides soothing relief from pain and swelling. It also helps to repair the ruptured tissues of the rectal canal and can work wonders when used on a daily basis.
You can also use a form of iodine called SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide). Mix 20 drops of SSKI with an ounce of flaxseed or olive oil and storing this in the refrigerator. Apply the mixture to the affected area twice a day. It can be very effective but it may sting temporarily.
Note: Iodine stains sheets and clothes, so wear pajamas that you don’t mind getting stained. The solution will stain your skin, but that will go away in time.
3.) Bioflavonoids – Bioflavonoids found in citrus fruits are extremely beneficial for people suffering from hemorrhoids, especially pregnant women. These plant-based compounds work by strengthening the anal walls and decreasing inflammation. Regular consumption of fruits rich in flavonoids such as lemons, limes and oranges can alleviate pain, bleeding, itching, discharge and other symptoms of hemorrhoids.
4.) Witch Hazel – Witch hazel is a very effective natural cure for hemorrhoids. It acts as an astringent and is especially beneficial for bleeding hemorrhoids. Available in the form of ointment, solutions, cream and even medicated pads, it should be applied directly to the hemorrhoids and the area around the anus. Regular use is will reduce the swelling, itching and discomfort caused by hemorrhoids.
5.) Germanium and Almond Oil – This is an age old remedy for healing hemorrhoids. Take Germanium oil and Almond oil in equal proportions, mix them well and apply to the affected areas in and around the anus. Both these oils have powerful antibacterial and cooling properties, which help in clearing infections and also soothe the hemorrhoids. This treatment can also help in providing a smooth bowel movement.
6.) Horse Chestnut – Horse Chestnut is a popular herb, often recommended for chronic venous insufficiency i.e. conditions where there is improper or poor blood circulation in the veins. It contains ‘Aescin’, an active compound that strengthens the blood vessels, reduces inflammation and pain. It is an effective cure for Hemorrhoids and can be used on a regular basis.
It has been shown time and time again that natural remedies can work as effectively in treating Hemorrhoids as modern medicines. Also, compared to other treatment options, these offer a safer, simpler and much more affordable cure for Hemorrhoids. See my article on a cure for hemorrhoids that work where I tell you how I came across the H Miracle treatment that contains a number of other natural treatments for hemorrhoids that are also very effective and beneficial.
